DISINFO: 89% of German businesses advocate rollback of Russia sanctions
SUMMARY
Most German businesses support the rollback of EU sanctions against Russia, according to an opinion poll by the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce.
The survey was conducted among 109 German companies with a combined revenue of over 13 billion euros and more than 60,000 employees. A majority of the businesses - 89% - said they supported the cancellation of the sanctions regime.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative concerning Western sanctions on Russia.
The article, headlined "Most German Companies Support Rollback of Russia Sanctions," presents the results of an obscure survey as the overall sentiment of German business circles regarding the sanctions on Russia.
The 109 companies which participated in the poll are hardly a representative sample of German business as a whole. All are affiliated with the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce and operate offices in Russia - their opposition to EU sanctions on Russia is therefore unsurprising. Moreover, their combined revenue of 13 billion euros is rather unimpressive when set against the overall size of the German economy. In 2019, the combined revenue of German companies exceeded 4 trillion euros in manufacturing and retail alone.
