Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative that depicts colour revolutions as attempts by the West to overthrow unwelcome regimes in post-Soviet states and in other regions, and as Western-sponsored efforts to subvert governments seeking to regain national sovereignty and control over national resources. According to this narrative, which has been recently applied also to explain protests in Venezuela, and in Bolivia any civil uprising is not spontaneous, but is supported, if not outright organised by the West, which is portrayed as an aggressive actor constantly preparing new coups. This message is also consistent with the narrative of lost sovereignty, which denies the existence of genuine grass-roots protests, portraying the latter as foreign-led efforts and fake colour revolutions.
