DISINFO: Belarus may soon be targeted by a Western “Drang nach Osten” plan
SUMMARY
The old world is trying to maintain its global position thanks to another “Drang nach Osten” plan. Belarus is the first target in the way of an aggressive attack. Belarus’s principal mission for 2025 is to prevent the EU and NATO’s attempts to commit such aggression to the east.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about alleged Western aggressiveness and the US / Western countries being Nazi. The latter is exemplified in the deceptive use of the Nazi “Drang nach Osten” expansionist plan.
Neither the EU nor NATO have any aggressive plans in relation to Belarus. EU policy towards Belarus is guided by the Council conclusions of 19 February 2024, in which the EU reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Belarusian people’s quest for a free, democratic, sovereign and independent Belarus as part of a peaceful and prosperous Europe. The NATO official webpage dedicated to the organisation's relations with Belarus similarly states that all NATO member states support a sovereign and independent Belarus.
These narratives are frequently spread by pro-Kremlin media outlets in the context of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on 24 February 2022. As many EU and NATO countries support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, pro-Kremlin outlets often falsely portray them as parties to the war. Ukraine and Western countries are often discredited through the ‘fascist / Nazi’ narrative which is one of the Kremlin disinformation machine's favourite tropes to denigrate Ukraine.
