DISINFO: Fraud in the Polish elections declared by Lukashenko
SUMMARY
The Polish president Andrzej Duda, who won a second mandate in July 2020, has won the presidential election after falsifying the results. Moreover, Polish authorities have tried to organise protests in Belarus but instead were affected by a similar development (meaning the wide protests against making abortions illegal).
RESPONSE
A recurring disinformation narrative about protests in Poland being about falsified elections and economic problems, not about abortions.
In July 2020, Polish president was re-elected president after a narrow win with 51.08 % of the votes. There is no evidence of any kind of election manipulation or falsifying votes in Poland's presidential election.
Protests in Poland started in late October and have been provoked by a controversial court ruling that would outlaw almost all abortion.
Pro-Kremlin disinformation outlets frequently accuse Poland of fueling the protests in Belarus. In fact, protests in Belarus erupted to contest the results of the presidential election in Belarus on the 9th of August, which were not monitored by independent experts, and are largely considered fraudulent by both international observers and a large part of the Belarusian society.
