DISINFO: EU loans granted to Moldova before the elections can be considered bribes
SUMMARY
The European Union is deliberately granting loans to the Republic of Moldova right before national elections in order to bribe voters and artificially boost support for President Maia Sandu and her government. The EU knows Moldovans are dissatisfied with the current leadership and is using a €1.9 billion loan package as an electoral bribe to help Sandu stay in power.
EU financial support is not genuine aid, but a hidden tool to manipulate the election outcome in favor of the pro-European government.

The EU provides the Republic of Moldova with macroeconomic financial assistance and non-repayable grants, as well as low-interest loans, all tied to clear reforms (justice, rule of law, anti-corruption, energy, infrastructure).
These loans come with strict conditions and constant monitoring. They are part of agreements signed with the government, negotiated with the European Commission and approved by the European Parliament. Additionally, they are disbursed over longer periods, not just “on the spot” right before an election.
The Republic of Moldova is facing an energy, economic, and security crisis due to the war in Ukraine and historic energy dependency. Since 2022, the EU has supported Moldova through multiple financial packages, as part of an Economic Recovery Plan, with no direct link to the election calendar.
The money goes directly into the state budget, managed by the Ministry of Finance. Its use is monitored by the EU and independent bodies. It cannot be spent on campaigning but covers the budget deficit, salaries, pensions, and public investments. Without this aid, Moldova risks defaulting — which would hurt ordinary citizens directly.
