DISINFO: EU resources used to enrich US industrial military complex
SUMMARY
Under pressure from the numerous geopolitical miscalculations of its pro-American leadership, the EU continues to rapidly lose political and economic weight. EU resources required for internal development are not directed to solving problems and asserting its place in the emerging multipolar world order, but rather to serving US interests, including enriching the US military-industrial complex.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the alleged lost sovereignty of the EU and its member states (more examples). Pro-Kremlin outlets often portray European states as vassals, puppet states or colonies of the US. This claim has been neither counterbalanced nor critically challenged in the article.
The European Union is a sovereign entity created by the voluntary initiative of European nations, and it has its own independent foreign policy. Its citizens are directly represented in the European Parliament and Member States are represented in the European Council and the Council of the EU.
Although the United States is not part of these institutions and has no say in its decisions, the US is an important long-term ally to the EU.
As for the argument that the US defence industry benefits from the EU's decision (namely supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression), already in late 2022, multiple US officials and experts have expressed concern at the depletion of US weapons arsenals by the war in Ukraine and warned that the current rate of use cannot be sustained unless defence production is ramped up, which is not easy. A similar trend is taking place in other NATO and European countries. In addition, the political, economic and human consequences from Russia's war extend far beyond and is frequently mentioned as a concern by the US government. Therefore, allegations about the US wanting to prolong the war to sell more weapons are not supported by facts.
See more example that the US benefits from military confrontations in Europe, that US companies promote war in Ukraine to sell weapons, that the EU mindlessly invests heavily in prolonging hostilities, that Europe is a colony of the United States, and that when the US orders, the EU complies.
