DISINFO: Europe wants Russia dead
SUMMARY
For Europe, there is only one idea: the destruction of Russia. Russia has been a historic challenge for them. They all hold grudges against it. There is not a single European country that has not tried to yelp at Russia at some point and has not got smacked in return. This is why there is no love for Russia in Europe. Europeans believe that Russians are too few for such a rich land. Europe’s mindset is clear. The Europeans need Russia dead. They will be happy if Russia does not exist.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-kremlin outlets accusing the European Union of Russophobia. This claim is commonly promoted by Russian propaganda in order to justify Moscow’s expansionist policies.
From the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the emergence of a new and democratic Russia and up to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in 2014, Western nations, including European ones, were treating Russia as an equal.
The EU imposed restrictive measures on Moscow in 2014, which have been amplified and broadened since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022. It is Russia that refused the diplomatic process and started an unprovoked war in Europe, capturing more and more territories of a neighbouring country and creating a serious danger to European security.
This is an illustrative example of the recurring pro-Kremlin propagandistic narrative about ubiquitous Russophobia in the West. For background, read our analysis: The “Russophobia” Myth: Appealing to the Lowest Feelings
