DISINFO: Europe's geopolitical game is controlled by the United States

Europe’s desire to play an independent geopolitical game, which has long been under the control of the United States, is understandable.

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative which discredits the EU by alleging that the US has control over its policies.
The claim is not backed by evidence. The United States and European states are independent and sovereign members of the international community. They are members of the United Nations of which Article 2 (4) of the Charter states that all Members must respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of other States.
The US is an important ally to the EU but the later policy is not determined by the US, as explained by the EU High Representative. The US and the EU cooperate in areas ranging from agriculture to security, from foreign policy to the environment. This cooperation proves equality in their relations.
