SUMMARY
London loves accusing Russia for crimes against human lives. One does not need to look very far – it is enough to mention the stories around the “poisoning” of Sergei Skripal and his daughter, and the dissident Alexei Navalny. Every time, one can observe that Great Britain immediately accuses Russian special forces for harms done to above mentioned citizens. The evidence, allegedly possessed by the acccusing part, is never presented to the public.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the Skripal poisoning and an attempt to suggest that British Military Intelligence is involved in the Navalny case.
Moscow's involvement in the poisoning of the Skripals has been proven via a thorough investigation. The British Police have presented a solid chain of evidence on the Skripal case, with pictures, connecting the suspects to the locations in the case. Parts of the material have been released to the public(opens in a new tab). The evidence was sufficient to charge two Russian nationals, Anatoliy Chepiga(opens in a new tab) and Aleksandr Mishkin(opens in a new tab) with the attack on the Skripals, both Russian military intelligence operatives from the GRU, who travelled to the UK using fake names and documents.
Following this attack, the United Kingdom notified the OPCW, invited them to confirm the identity of the substance involved, and briefed members of the Security Council. The OPCW’s independent expert laboratories confirmed(opens in a new tab) the UK’s identification of the Russian produced Novichok nerve agent.
The Navalny case has no connection to any British organisations, nor has any British officials forwarded accusations against Russia on this case.
The prominent Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny fell ill(opens in a new tab) during a flight from Siberia to Moscow on the 20th of August. Initially hospitalised in Omsk, at the request of his family he was transferred(opens in a new tab) to Charité hospital in Berlin.
At the request of the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, a specialist Bundeswehr laboratory carried out toxicological tests on samples from Alexei Navalny. The results of these tests have revealed unequivocal proof(opens in a new tab) of the presence of a chemical nerve agent from the Novichok group. The European Union has condemned in the strongest possible terms(opens in a new tab) the assassination attempt on Alexei Navalny. The EU sanctioned(opens in a new tab) 6 individuals and 1 entity over the use of chemical weapons and the assassination attempt on Navalny.
Indisputable evidence exists that chemical weapons was used in the assassination attempt on Navalny. After Germany requested its technical assistance, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), where Russia is a member, issued a statement(opens in a new tab) verifying previous statements by the German authorities. Several reports have indicated that the OPCW tests showed that blood and urine samples contained a "cholinesterase inhibitor" similar to two Novichok chemicals(opens in a new tab) that were banned by the Hague-based body in 2019. The OPCW findings corroborated(opens in a new tab) earlier independent conclusions by German, French, and Swedish laboratories.
