DISINFO: Moldova is under the soft occupation of Western NGOs, who are destroying the country
SUMMARY
Western NGOs (non-governmental organisations) are destroying Moldova. The network of non-governmental organisations created in the country by the West is playing a key role in the snap election, intervening directly in the campaign on the side of pro-Western candidates. President Maia Sandu and her PAS party come from an environment of NGOs and follow their directions. The current situation in Moldova can be described safely as the soft occupation by these NGOs, whose work undermines the pillars of the Moldovan nation and state.
Today we can say that one of the most efficient non-lethal methods of “hybrid war” is the creation of a network of NGOs, commonly called “civil society”. It is done with the help of these people, who are in fact the most brilliant incarnation of the concept of “fifth column”, and with massive propaganda attacks, protest events and riots, and the introduction of influence agents in governmental structures. To fund these NGOs, great international foundations have been created with names that generally include words like “democracy”, “reforms”, “development” and “justice”. This is an extremely dangerous phenomenon that is very hard to confront because they have huge economic resources, are cynical and stop at nothing to reach their goals. In Moldova, there are around 14,000 different NGOs. Today in Moldova’s political system only a few parties are willing to resist this occupation and fight for the true independence of their country.
RESPONSE
This is a mix of several recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives against Moldovan president Maia Sandu and about pro-Western civil society movements as the engine of foreign-backed ‘colour revolutions’.
By trying to present president Maia Sandu and her party as Western puppets, these claims are an attempt to discredit them prior to the snap election that took place on 11 July 2021, where her former political formation secured majority of seats in the parliament receiving more votes than pro-Russian Bloc of Communists and Socialists. Allegations against Moldovan NGOs, including those who receive funding from Western countries, are baseless and not backed by any evidence, and are connected to a long-standing pro-Kremlin stance that frames political opposition, independent media and civil society organisations as Western Trojan horses and “foreign agents”.
