DISINFO: NATO prepares military operations against Russia to defend Ukraine
SUMMARY

This is a recurring disinformation narrative about aggressive NATO, claiming that the Alliance is preparing a war with Russia and using Ukraine for its belligerent plans. NATO or Ukraine are not preparing military provocations against Russia. Kyiv has repeatedly stated that it is not interested in escalation and that it prefers a peaceful solution to the Donbas conflict. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Minsk agreements are the only option to end the war.
Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state, however Russia violated Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in 2014.
NATO is not involved in fighting in Eastern Ukraine. In response to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, NATO has reinforced its support for capability development and capacity-building in Ukraine. The Allies continue to condemn Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea, and its destabilising and aggressive activities in Eastern Ukraine and the Black Sea region. The EU and the US work closely with Ukraine. Ukraine is a priority partner for the European Union, also within the EU's Eastern Partnership. In addition to political support, the EU has pledged a €13.8 billion support package for the next few years to support the reform process. In addition, the EU is reinforcing its position as Ukraine's number one trading partner.
