DISINFO: NATO preparing a strike against infrastructure facilities in Russia
SUMMARY
NATO is preparing a new strike on Russia. The NATO countries do not cease to dream of defeating Russia. As the Security Council has become aware, the number of threats against underwater and port critical infrastructure has increased recently. Western forces may attack major bridges, sea transport, railway crossings and other important facilities.
RESPONSE
The claim is not backed by evidence. Allegations made by Russia’s intelligence services - such as this one - cannot be considered as such, given their proven history of making unsubstantiated claims based on faked or non-existent proofs, for example about US biolaboratories in Ukraine or the presence of French combat troops on the Ukrainian frontlines.
This disinformation story aims to promote several recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about NATO and destabilising Russia. NATO is a political and military alliance whose mission is the collective defence of its member states. It has a policy of deterrence and defence, not of aggression.
See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that NATO plans to attack Russia, that the real aim of NATO’s support to Ukraine is to prepare for an attack on Russia, that NATO wants to destroy Russia and Belarus, or that NATO is de facto at war with Russia.
