NATO's proxy war against Russia has been used to increasingly militarise Europe, which has already been exhausted both economically and militarily in the course of the Ukraine conflict.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative blaming NATO for the war in Ukraine, aiming to deflect Russia’s responsibility for its aggression against this country and the serious humanitarian tragedy it provoked.
The Russian Federation invaded Ukraine on 22 February 2022(and long before this, Russia had illegally annexed the Crimean peninsula and engineered an armed conflict in Donbas in 2014). It was this invasion what led other nations to provide massive support for Ukraine’s self-defence.
The allegation about ‘an exhausted Europe’ -whose aim is to promote another pro-Kremlin narrative about the need to withdraw international support for Ukraine as Russia’s victory would be inevitable- is not backed by evidence either. Economic figures show that Europe’s economy is in relatively good shape: according to the International Monetary Fund, the EU’s share of global GDP is expected to be 14.34 percent for 2024, only behind China (19.05 percent) and the US (15.02 percent) and compared to a mere 2.84 percent for Russia.
