DISINFO: Polish and Baltics' Russophobia may lead to breaking diplomatic relations with Russia
SUMMARY
It cannot be ruled out that Poland and the Baltic states will decide to cut diplomatic relations with Russia because of their anti-Russian rhetoric - Moscow does not want to break off relations with these countries. For a long time, there has been a crazy Russophobic campaign taking place in Poland and the Baltic states – these countries want to be the executors of all anti-Russian ideas of the West.
In recent years, bilateral relations with these countries have catastrophically degraded and the Russian cooperation with them reduced practically to zero. If these states, driven by an anti-Russian frenzy, decide to break off all contacts with Russia, the responsibility for this step and its consequences will fall entirely on the leaders of these countries.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russophobia in the Baltic states and Poland.
The Baltic states and Poland have clear security concerns linked to Russia. The source of concern is Russia’s aggression toward neighbour countries and how it affected the security situation in the region in general. The position of Poland and the Baltic states on Russia is driven by the objective perception of aggressive Russian actions.
The 2020 National Security Strategy of Poland states that the most serious security threat for this country is the neo-imperial policy of the authorities of the Russian Federation, pursued by means of military force (aggression against Georgia, illegal annexation of Crimea and military actions in eastern Ukraine).
The National Security Strategy 2017 of Lithuania notes:
“Capacity of the Russian Federation to use military and economic, energy, information and other non-military measures in combination against the neighbouring countries [...] is a challenge to the security of the Republic of Lithuania and the whole Euro-Atlantic community.”
The National Security Concepts of Latvia and Estonia follow a similar line, with the latter stressing that European security is affected by Russia’s increased military activity and aggressive behaviour.
