DISINFO: Real aim of NATO’s support to Ukraine is to prepare for an attack on Russia
SUMMARY
According to Rutte's logic, the Maidan coup, its de facto occupation by the West and the preparation of a conflict with Russia were apparently all started with the sole aim of avoiding a war. From the West's point of view, this is actually true: the unfortunate citizens of Ukraine are fighting in its place. They are fighting not only for the amusement and profit of their masters, sparing Western soldiers’ lives. For the Alliance, Ukrainians are mere consumables, not too precious.
The strategy announced by Rutte is clear: the Ukrainian noose around Russia's neck must be tightened as much as possible and then a strong push made. Russia will supposedly collapse and fall to pieces, and even then it will take strength to exploit its individual parts.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the war in Ukraine, actively trying to deflect Russia's responsibility for its unprovoked military aggression. It is a false claim without any evidence provided.
The claim is connected with Mark Rutte's remarks from December 2024: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin aims to "wipe Ukraine off the map" and may target other parts of Europe next. Rutte highlighted Russia's history of aggression, including its actions in Georgia, Crimea, and the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, expressing deep concern about the threat posed by Moscow. Rutte accused Russia of conducting coordinated hostile actions against NATO allies, such as cyberattacks and sabotage, aimed at destabilising societies and undermining support for Ukraine. He urged member states to exceed the 2% GDP defence spending target to counter these threats effectively.
The claim that the West is using Ukraine as a springboard for a war against Russia is unsubstantiated. The West did everything it could to prevent the war in Ukraine. It was Russia who started the war back in 2014 and decided to escalate it in 2022. Russia is the only country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine. It has been coming up with different false explanations and pretexts for its aggression since the beginning of its hostilities.
NATO troops are not fighting in Ukraine. The Alliance has repeatedly stated that it is not a warring party and does not have troops on the ground in Ukraine. Moreover, Russia was not forced to invade Ukraine. It was Putin’s personal decision to invade Ukraine and start the largest military conflict in Europe since WWII.
The US, the EU and NATO condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked. Not only Western but also many other nations around the world support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter article 51, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
