SUMMARY
Russia is currently fighting for a new international order and the formation of a multipolar world based on the principle of equal and indivisible security. The Americans are fighting to preserve the order based on some American rules, while Russia is advocating for a multipolar world based precisely on the principle of equal and indivisible security.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative justifying Russia's aggressive policies throughout the world in general and in Ukraine in particular. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Russia’s aggressive policies towards Ukraine have seriously damaged world security. By illegally annexing the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in 2014, Russia committed an act of aggression against a sovereign nation and breached the principle of the inviolability of borders.
Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, which was launched on 24 February 2022 and which is Europe's largest military conflict since the Second World War, has caused more damage to the security situation in Europe.
Russian leaders have often threatened Ukraine and its Western partners to use nuclear arms. Russian drones and military aircraft have violated the air space of NATO member states more than once, which poses a serious threat to the overall security in Europe and across the world alike. Russia’s military cooperation with Iran and North Korea do not help strengthen international security either.
A broad coalition of more than 50 nations are providing Ukraine with military and technical assistance with the sole aim of repelling Russia's aggression. Ukraine wants to recover its occupied territories and restore its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders of 1991. Kyiv is acting in self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter article 51. The US, the EU and NATO condemn in the strongest possible terms this invasion, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked.
