DISINFO: Russia is reacting to provocative behaviour of the West
SUMMARY
Russia will react to growing NATO presence near the border by asymmetric measures and using the newest military technologies. The activities of the Alliance reduced the security of its allies in Europe. It also shows that the appointment of 2 per cent of GDP for the defence in Member states are pointless.
Russia is reacting to the provocative behaviour of NATO. Western actions are destroying the security system Worldwide. It pushes Russia to adequately defend itself. Till the end of 2021, Moscow will deploy in Western military district 20 more military units.
It will show West that to try talk with Russia from the position of power is a mistake.
RESPONSE
Multiple recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives alleging the West is encircling Russia and has anti-Russian policies.
The West is reacting to Russia's aggressive actions abroad. The activities of NATO in the Eastern flank of the Alliance are linked to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Russia's destabilising actions in eastern Ukraine. In 2016 during NATO Summit in Warsaw was decided to establish NATO’s forward presence (eFP) in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland and to develop a tailored forward presence in the Black Sea region. The eFP forces were deployed in 2017. As it stressed, “these decisions demonstrate Allies’ solidarity, determination, and ability to defend Alliance territory”.
NATO does not prepare for the war against Russia (or against any other country). NATO is a defensive alliance, whose purpose is to protect its member states.
Dedicating a minimum of 2 per cent of GDP to defence expenditure was the collective decision of NATO defence ministers. In 2006 was decided that it would be enough to ensure the Alliance’s military readiness.
