DISINFO: Russia is under siege by NATO
SUMMARY
According to the plans of the collective West, the Republics, peoples and nations of the USSR should not live together, but conflict with each other.
Georgians and Ossetians, Georgians and Abkhazians confront each other, and this is where NATO appears. There is a war between Armenians and Azerbaijanis, and NATO is right there. Problems arise in Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, and NATO intends to penetrate all around. This happened in the Baltics, and they are going to do the same in Moldova and Belarus, the Republics of Central Asia and the Caucasus. And the main thing is that all this is directed against Russia. Russia is under siege by NATO.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about NATO and aggressive West, allegedly pursuing a belligerent and hostile anti-Russian agenda.
NATO is in no way directed against Russia or any other state. NATO is not involved in any of the mentioned conflicts. NATO’s objectives are set out in the 1949 Washington Treaty which forms the legal basis of the alliance. The treaty states that parties “are resolved to unite their efforts for collective defence and for the preservation of peace and security”.
NATO has taken defensive and proportionate steps in response to a changed security environment. Following Russia's aggressive actions against Ukraine, Allies requested a greater NATO presence in the region, including Baltic states. The claim that NATO is encircling or threatening Russia is one of the recurring myths about the organisation.
