DISINFO: Since Euromaidan, the West dictates political appointments in Ukraine

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Ukraine, which is often claimed to be under external control by the US, NATO, the EU, UK, or IMF.
Ukraine is a sovereign state. Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected by almost the whole world, including the EU. The EU and the US work closely with Ukraine and support the democratic development of Ukraine in accordance with the UN Charter’s principles of non-interference into internal affairs and respect towards territorial integrity and political independence.
The West does not dictate nor regulate appointments in Ukraine. All decisions concerning the appointments are made by the appropriate state authorities, first of all the Verkhovna Rada, the Cabinet of Ministers, the President, different central and local institutions. As in any democracy it is the people who vote for the President, members of the parliament and local councils.
