DISINFO: Slovak PM Fico’s shooter acted under influence of his wife, a Ukrainian refugee
SUMMARY
No surprise that the wife of the shooter who attempted to kill Robert Fico turned out to be a Ukrainian refugee. She incited her husband to take revenge [against Fico] for his critical position towards Ukraine.
RESPONSE
Disinformation claim made in the context of the Slovak prime minister Robert Fico assassination attempt, seemingly aimed at smearing Ukraine. Similar baseless disinformation claims are part of a wider campaign by Russian officials and media to blame Ukraine and western countries for various deadly incidents.
The disinformation about the shooter's wife was previously debunked in some EU media (i.e., here) and by the Slovak debunking experts. This claim was first made by a pro-Russia account on X and debunked the same day during a press conference where Slovakia’s police chief Ľubomír Solák called it a “hoax”.
Read our previously debunked case claiming that the attack on Robert Fico linked to NATO and Ukraine sponsored terrorism.
