DISINFO: Sputnik V is more efficient against Delta variant than mRNA vaccines
SUMMARY
The efficacy of Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines against the Delta variant of COVID-19 has dropped significantly and the solution could be Sputnik V which still shows 83% efficacy against the new variant.
RESPONSE
This is definitely a misleading title in order to discredit the efficacy of vaccines against COVID-19 produced by Western pharmaceutical companies.
Although it is true that the mRNA vaccines may not be so efficient against the Delta variant as they have been against previous variants like Alpha, this does not make Sputnik V vaccine more efficient.
Numerous research presents data that proves that the vaccines are effective against the new strains. Additionally, there is a varying degree of efficacy, it is also true that people fully vaccinated with mRNA vaccines are well protected against severe COVID-19 symptoms. Even the Mayo Clinic research referred to in this report still indicates that mRNA vaccines protect against infection and severe disease before it additionally highlights that "further evaluation of mechanisms underlying differences in their effectiveness such as dosing regimens and vaccine composition are warranted".
