DISINFO: Sweden can become insolvent following the investigation into North Stream accident
SUMMARY
As the Nord Stream accident took place in Swedish sea waters, it means Sweden failed to provide security. It raises the question of who is responsible for the incurred losses. Answering it can bring Sweden to insolvency. Hence, the uncertainty of the Swedish leadership, including the issue of Nato accession, is well understood.
RESPONSE
The article aims at discrediting Sweden’s plans to join Nato under the pretext of Sweden's alleged responsibility for the Nord Stream accidents. Sweden, Germany and Denmark have initiated investigations to find the cause of the leaks. Sweden and Denmark, in whose exclusive economic zones the accident occurred, are investigating the sites. It is nevertheless unjustified, particularly as the investigation is in progress, to argue that these countries have to bear financial responsibility for the acts of sabotage, not to speak of the apocalyptic ‘insolvency’ claim. As High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell stated: "Any deliberate disruption of European energy infrastructure is utterly unacceptable and will be met with a robust and united response." NATO called the incidents "deliberate, reckless, and irresponsible acts of sabotage.
