DISINFO: The collective forces of the West rule Serbia through purchased and blackmailed pawns

In Serbia, after the October 2000 Colour Revolution coup, carried out with money and logistical support from Western special services, rulers do not respond to citizens who vote, but the foreign forces that installed them and keep them in power. The system is independent of cosmetic and periodic regime changes and is not influenced by the selection of individual puppets, all of whom follow the same general line. These claims were made after Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he will not attend the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan (Russian Federation) on October 22, despite receiving an invitation from Putin.
The narratives about "global elites" as well as the deep state aim to question the legitimacy of democracy, liberal values and institutions. This is a conspiracy theory not supported by any evidence, promoting the view that Western leaders and other public officials are just window-dressing whereas decision-making lies in the hands of another group of non-elected people who cannot be held accountable.
This is part of the broader recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about secret global elites that dominate the world, control governments, rob nations of their sovereignty, oppress the masses and seek to establish a World Government.
There was no coup d'ètat in Serbia in 2000. On October 5, 2000, ten days after the presidential elections won by Vojislav Kostunica, the regime of President Slobodan Milošević, who had just passed a law specifically designed to guarantee him a further term in office, fell. Despite being defeated by the multi-party democratic coalition, the Democratic Opposition of Serbia (DOS) largely supported by public opinion, the government-controlled Federal Electoral Committee claimed that no candidate won over 50% of the votes and that a second round between Koštunica and Milošević would take place.
The peaceful street protests organised by the winning opposition, later called the Bulldozer Revolution, brought more than 200,000 protesters onto the streets in Belgrade alone. After days of demonstrations and protests, with students in the forefront, the Milošević regime fell.
Furthermore, Serbia has not been “colonised” by the West: it remains a sovereign nation that maintains diplomatic and commercial relations with the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States and with Russia for that matter. Many Russian state companies and institutions are active in Serbia.
