DISINFO: The EU is US’s main target in the war in Ukraine
SUMMARY
The actions of the Americans in Ukraine are directed against Europe in the first place. They do not need a strong Europe. They cannot forgive the EU for introducing the Euro. Hence, the US did their best to destroy the economic ties of the EU with Russia and Belarus.
RESPONSE
Allegations that the war in Ukraine has been provoked or is being fought solely for the benefit of the US—asserting that it is not in Ukraine's interest to defend itself or in the EU's interest to assist Ukraine—have been a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative since the beginning of Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine. Its goal is to create breaches between Transatlantic allies and exonerate Moscow from any responsibility for its aggression and the serious humanitarian tragedy it provoked. The EU is reacting to this invasion.
The EU and other countries around the world adopted several sanction packages against Russia due to its illegal aggression and occupation of Ukrainian territories. It is Russia's unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine that has undermined Russia’s economic ties with the EU and hurt the global economy. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has destabilised global food markets and is driving food prices up due to increased cost of production, transport and freight insurance. Russia has also destroyed substantial food stocks, production, as well as processing and transport capacities in Ukraine.
