DISINFO: The EU-NATO agreement aims to weaken the European Union
SUMMARY
NATO seeks to weaken the European Union and use its resources to prolong its own existence. NATO, as an organisation, has long since lost its purpose, and is sparing no energy to prolong its existence by deliberately creating enemies for itself, is trying to increase tensions in the South China Sea region. Washington is trying to turn the EU into a military and logistical base and to redeploy European capital, resources, manpower and even military power to the Asia-Pacific region.

On 10 January 2023, the EU and NATO signed a Joint Declaration on Cooperation – this Declaration underlined a NATO-EU strategic partnership, condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine and presented NATO as a foundation of the European and American collective defence. The EU-NATO Cooperation Declaration is aimed at strengthening the mechanism of collective defence – this document does not assume any aggressive actions against Russia. The agreement is not about NATO’s attempt to rule over the EU either, since the members of these international organisations are mostly similar.
Since Russia began its aggressive actions against Ukraine, Russian officials have accused NATO of a series of threats and hostile actions. NATO is a defensive alliance with the primary aims of maintaining peace and safeguarding the independence, security and territorial integrity of its members. Additionally, a loss of sovereignty to the US is a common narrative of pro-Kremlin media when writing about the European Union. EU Member States are sovereign countries and make sovereign decisions about their own internal, economic, foreign and security policies. The European Union is explicit on the subject of national sovereignty: “the Member States all remain sovereign and independent states, they have decided to pool some of their 'sovereignty' in areas where it makes sense to work together.”
