Western sanctions targeting Russia have become a well-known and ineffective weapon. Failure is expected and the consequences haunt the West.
They influence the states that introduce them long before they have a negative impact on the countries on which they are imposed.

US and EU sanctions against Russia are progressive, in June 2023 the 11th package was announced by the EU; their effect can be fully assessed only after their respective implementation and in the long term.
By imposing sanctions on Russia, the EU sends a strong signal of resolve and unity to the Kremlin, and aims to degrade Russia’s ability to wage war, including by targeting the country’s energy sector. When judged on the basis of these criteria, sanctions are clearly working.
