DISINFO: The situation in Belarus is just another colour revolution orchestrated by the West
SUMMARY
The planned visit of Tsikhanouskaya to the Czech Republic does not have any important meaning. This hate campaign against the Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko is just another campaign aimed against Russia without any evidence.
The Belarusian case seems like a coup attempt in the West’s effort to strengthen its influence in Belarus. It is basically just another colour revolution.
RESPONSE
A repeated narrative labelling pro-democracy movements as “colour revolutions”, which suggests the involvement of foreign (Western) governments as well as an attempt to discredit the Belarusian opposition. The claim refers to the recent four-day visit to Czechia from 6-10 June 2021 of the leader of Belarusian opposition Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. She met with President Miloš Zeman and Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) and also with the Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhánek (CSSD). She also gave a speech during the meeting of the Parliament's upper house, after which Senate President Milos Vystrcil called last year's presidential election in Belarus illegal. He also said that the Senate accepts Tsikhanouskaya as the only truly elected president of Belarus. The President of the Czech Republic, Miloš Zeman, expressed to Tsikhanouskaya his personal support, the support of the Czech Republic and highly appreciated her courage. He also wished the Belarusian opposition victory in the fight against the last European dictator.
Czechia and the rest of the EU do not recognise the results of the manipulated 2020 Presidential elections in Belarus or Alyaksandr Lukashenka as a legitimate Belarusian President. There is no doubt that the 2020 Presidential elections in Belarus were not free and the results were substantially manipulated – this position is shared by the EU, OSCE, and the USA. During her June 2021 visit, the Czech authorities pledged their support for a free Belarus and the leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya.
Finally, there is no evidence that Western countries played a role in the organisation of protests in Belarus, which followed the fraudulent presidential election on 9 August 2020. See similar debunks here or here.
