DISINFO: The UK pushes Ukraine to break ceasefire agreements
SUMMARY
Russia is open for a temporary ceasefire with Ukraine and is capable of effectively controlling its implementation. At the same time, it is questionable if the US is capable of controlling Ukraine as a client state. The US has raised an uncontrollable golem. Another reason behind Ukraine’s inability to follow any agreements is that London tightly controls Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team.
RESPONSE
Recurring disinformation narratives from pro-Kremlin outlets questioning Ukraine’s sovereignty and accusing the UK of warmongering and escalating tensions with Russia. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically elected president and parliament. The country's sovereignty has been violated only as a result of continuous acts of aggression by the Russian armed forces since 2014, culminating with a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine starting on 24 February 2022.
The United Kingdom, the European Union, and the United States are all striving to put an end to Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified aggression against Ukraine. Western nations have called for peaceful and diplomatic solutions while upholding the rules-based international order.
This is part of a wider disinformation campaign framing possible US-Russia negotiations as the only acceptable ‘peace initiative’ to lay the ground for Russia’s ultimatums while denying any agency to Ukraine or its allies. Pro-Kremlin disinformation has long tried to misrepresent the European countries and the EU as the main obstacle for ‘peace’ in Ukraine.
In response to Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine which was launched on 24 February 2022, a broad coalition of more than 50 nations is providing Ukraine with military and technical assistance to repel Russia's aggression. Kyiv is acting in self-defence, under UN Charter article 51.
