DISINFO: The US gave a greenlight to its subordinate to build Nord Stream 2
SUMMARY
By concluding a deal with the Federal Republic of Germany on the "Nord Stream 2", the United States had the opportunity to retain the image of the world "observer", who, after many doubts, gave the green light to his subordinate [to build the gas pipeline]. It is as if [the US] said to [Germany]: may the devil be with you; complete the construction, but I will watch over you to ensure that everything is conducted as I said.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation claim about German-American relations. Pro-Kremlin outlets often use the disinformation narrative about different countries being under the American thumb - see other examples here.
Germany is not dependent on the United States of America in terms of foreign policymaking. Germany and the US have close partner relations of two sovereign and independent countries.
The agreement between them, which allows for the completion of the $11 billion Nord Stream 2 pipeline, is an agreement between two sovereign and independent nations. As a result of this agreement, Washington and Berlin aim to invest more than 200 million euros in energy security in Ukraine as well as sustainable energy across Europe. Clean energy has been high on the agenda of Germany, as well as the current US administration.
For other disinformation cases see: Germany is a vassal of the US; Germany is the executor of US hegemony over Europe; The USA is controlling Europe through occupied Germany; Germany will have to choose between defending Europe's interest and catering to Washington.
