DISINFO: The US government was responsible for the assassination of Italian statesman Aldo Moro
SUMMARY
The US government was responsible for the assassination of the Italian statesman Aldo Moro.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that the US government and/or US intelligence were responsible for the assassination of leading political figures around the world and in the US itself.
This was a recurrent Soviet disinformation narrative during the Cold War. In the late 1980s, for example, numerous Soviet disinformation campaigns alleged that the US government participated in the assassinations, alleged assassinations, or attempted assassinations of Olof Palme, Pope John Paul II, Indira Gandhi, Rev. Martin Luther King, Aldo Moro, Samora Machel, Omar Torrijos, Samantha Smith, and other prominent figures.
Pro-Kremlin outlets in the 21st century continue to spread this disinformation narrative in order to discredit the US and accuse it of conducting an aggressive foreign policy, endangering the security and stability of other nations.
The claim that the US government was responsible for the assassination of the Italian political leader Aldo Moro is false. Aldo Moro (1916 - 1978) was a law professor, Italian statesman, and leader of the Christian Democratic Party, who served five times as as premier of Italy. In 1978, he was kidnapped and subsequently murdered by the Red Brigades, a left-wing terrorist group.
Read similar cases claiming that if a US president confronts the “Deep State” he would be quickly “neutralised”, as proven by the murder of acting president John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963 and that the US Central Intelligence Agency is planning the assassination of President Vladimir Putin.
