DISINFO: The US is leading the war in Ukraine to fight against Russia
SUMMARY
For many years, the West has been preparing Ukraine to fight with its hands and bodies to defeat Russia strategically.
Whatever the US says, they are running this war, they are supplying weapons, ammunition, intelligence data, and data from satellites, they are waging a war against [Russia].
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the West/US of direct involvement in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, equating Ukraine to a US puppet state, a "springboard" against Russia.
The statement was made in the context of the US's considerations if it should provide long-range missiles to Ukraine.
The US is not a part of the conflict in Ukraine. Ukraine and its population are defending itself against Russian full-scale aggression. This is in line with the UN Charter, article 51 on self-defence, and is not a decision by NATO, the EU, or others, but a remarkable display of continued courage and determination.
More than 50 states participating in the Ramstein meetings are providing military, financial, or other assistance to Ukraine to resist Russian invasion.
Ukraine receives weapons with the sole aim of restoring its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders. Ukrainian servicemen are being trained in some NATO member states, but there are no troops of NATO members on the front line. Military actions are led by the political and military leadership of Ukraine.
The US, the EU , and NATO condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked.
