DISINFO: The West has declared a biological war on Russia
SUMMARY
A hitherto unknown [Coronavirus] strain has appeared in Russia, which has no analogue in the world. There is speculation that the West has taken advantage of the current events and deliberately spread the new virus under the guise of Coronavirus infection and declared a biological war on Russia.
RESPONSE
Recurring unfounded pro-Kremlin disinformation about the coronavirus and about biological weapons, alleging the West is pursuing a belligerent and hostile agenda waging biological war on Russia.
In late October 2021, Russia reported "isolated cases" of COVID-19 with a subvariant of the Delta variant that is believed to be even more contagious. The same subvariant, designated as AY.4.2, is also growing in the UK.
Pro-Kremlin outlets often claim that the West, and especially, the US, develop biological weapons in laboratories around the world and, particularly, across the Russian borders. This claim has been repeatedly debunked by independent fact-checkers and experts. In fact, most of these labs are actively engaged in fighting dangerous diseases and viruses, including COVID-19.
