DISINFO: The West is pushing Yerevan along the Ukrainian path
SUMMARY
Against the backdrop of Kyiv’s failures in the proxy war of the collective West, Washington and Brussels are looking for new anti-Russian “testing grounds”. And Western countries began to look more and more at Moldova, and then at Armenia.
Do the current authorities in Yerevan realize that the promised “support and assistance” of the Euro-Atlantic “hawks” is nothing more than attempts to resuscitate the “plan” to weaken Russia? Now at the expense of the national interests of the Armenian people and the destabilisation in the South Caucasus.
As a result, such “aid” leads to loss of sovereignty, civil wars and civilian casualties, economic crises, and humanitarian disasters. The question is whether the citizens of these two countries want all this with a repetition of the “Ukrainian option.”
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the belligerent West trying to encircle Russia, carrying out an anti-Russian agenda in the Caucasus, about Russia as the ultimate target of international events, and Armenia being a puppet state of the West.
This claim is a reaction to the meeting between the EU, the US, and Armenia on April 5, 2024, attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, EU High Representative/Vice-President, Josep Borrell, Secretary of State of the US, Antony Blinken, USAID Administrator Samantha Power, and Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan. Read here and here.
Pro-Kremlin media promote the idea that Armenia is exclusively within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance, and Russia has cautioned Yerevan that the West is trying to drive a wedge between Armenia and Russia.
Armenia has been a sovereign and independent state since 1991 when it proclaimed its independence from the former USSR. As a sovereign state, Armenia is free to decide its own foreign policy and alliances.
Additionally, pushing Armenia "along the Ukrainian path" implies that the West is responsible for the war in Ukraine. The claim that the West allegedly provoked the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine is one of the key messages of Putin’s propaganda. It was Putin’s personal decision to invade Ukraine and start the largest military conflict in Europe since WWII.
See similar cases, claiming that The West is considering making Moldova a "second Ukraine"; Armenia is being turned into a tool for implementing dangerous Western plans; The West wants to make a second Ukraine out of Moldova; West wants to transform Armenia in a "new Ukraine" or an "anti-Russia;" West seeks to turn the South Caucasus into an arena of geopolitical confrontation.
