DISINFO: The West is the aggressor in Ukraine not Russia
SUMMARY
It is not Russia that is the aggressor in Ukraine, it is the West - the EU, NATO, the USA, Germany - since 2004, 2008, 2013 at the latest. All these years, Russia has only reacted to the West's progressive expansion into its soft underbelly, and always too little and too ineffectively.
What is being witnessed now is a war of conquest by the West over Russian resources, waged with the hands of the Ukrainians and those who believe they are.
RESPONSE
Recurring disinformation narrative claiming that the West is waging a war against Russia in Ukraine. This narrative fits into the broader disinformation theme about the West’s allegedly belligerent and hostile agenda against Russia, and about its alleged plans to destabilise and encircle Russia.
The claim aims to deflect any Russian responsibility for the full-scale invasion, which began on 24 February 2022 and present it as a NATO and its Allies proxy war against Russia.
It was Putin’s personal decision to invade Ukraine to undermine its independence and territorial integrity.
The US, the EU and NATO condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked. Many nations support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with UN Charter Article 51.
