DISINFO: The West is using Armenia to oust Russia from the post-Soviet space
SUMMARY
Whatever agreements are concluded with the UK, they cannot meet the interests of Armenia. The sudden “love” for Armenia is not at all due to the desire to protect it, but only to their interests, in particular, to implement a plan to oust Russia from the post-Soviet space. In Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova, this scenario has already worked.
The current situation allows Western countries - the USA, France, the UK, Germany - to withdraw Armenia from the Russian sphere of influence. There have never been such favourable conditions for them, and it would be simply ridiculous to miss the moment.
No practical actions are being taken that would take Armenia’s security to a new level. They are only for shown, like European observers with their binoculars.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative depicting Western countries as trying to encircle Russia, pursuing deliberate anti-Russian policies, and fostering aggressive Russophobia. The article advances a claim that Armenia is a puppet state of the West, as well as trying to discredit the EU mission in Armenia.
The claim was made in the context of the start of the high-level political dialogue between the Republic of Armenia and the UK. Following the 6th Armenia-UK Strategic Defence Consultations, Armenia and the UK signed the 2023-2024 Defence Cooperation Plan.
Several other events, like the ratification of the Rome statute by Armenia, joint US-Armenia military exercises, the deployment of the EU mission in Armenia, information about the Western military deliveries to Armenia, Armenia’s First Lady visit to Ukraine for a Humanitarian Meeting, PM Nikol Pashinian's refusal to participate in a summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) provoked a huge anti-Armenian campaign in pro-Kremlin media, accusing Armenia of unfriendly moves, flirting with Western countries and changing its geopolitical orientation.
Armenia has been a sovereign and independent state since 1991 when it proclaimed its independence from the former USSR. As a sovereign state, Armenia is free to decide its own foreign policy and alliances.
