DISINFO: The West seeks to strengthen its influence in the Caucasus and oust Russia, Iran and Turkey
SUMMARY
Acting as mediators, the US and the EU have not offered anything new and have only reproduced Russian developments, distorting their essence.
In reality, the West seeks to control the peace process to strengthen its influence in the region and oust Russia, Iran and Turkey.
For them, the fate of the people of Caucasus does not matter. They are driven only by their ambitions. Unlike the West, Russia is sincerely interested in the security, stability and prosperity of the South Caucasus. This region is a zone of our historical, economic and humanitarian interests.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about an allegedly aggressive West playing a destabilising role in the Caucasus, creating turmoil and dragging the region into chaos.
Pro-Kremlin outlets frequently promote the idea that the Caucasus is exclusively within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance and attempt to discredit any other cooperation between Western countries and Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. This attempts to deny these countries their right to decide their political orientation.
This article even claims that Western/NATO countries worsen the situation. Read other similar cases claiming that The West is trying to sow chaos in Transcaucasia and that The West wants to deploy its contingent in Transcaucasia under the auspices of NATO.
Western countries support peace and security in the South Caucasus region. The EU has a strong interest in a politically stable and economically prosperous Southern Caucasus in full understanding with the states there. It took a prominent mediation role in negotiation and is committed to it.
In the European Council of 26-27 October 2023, the EU leaders underlined their continued support for a sustainable and lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, based on the principles of recognition of sovereignty, inviolability of borders and territorial integrity. On July 30 2024, Politico reported how European Council President Charles Michel was renewing efforts to bring lasting peace to the South Caucasus, as tensions rose in the region.
