The West unleashed a cold war against Russia in 2014. At first, it was a social, informational, political and sanctions-based war. The West is weakening now. It is triggering serious conflicts which can turn into global warfare.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that NATO allegedly provoked Russia into assaulting Ukraine. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The European Union, the United States and other countries are helping Ukraine repel Russia's aggression. They imposed sanctions after Russia illegally annexed the Crimean Peninsula under the false pretext of protecting Russian-speaking people from Kyiv's purportedly Nazi regime. More restrictions have followed since the 2022 aggression. Ukraine’s partners assist it with military and financial support with the sole aim of helping it restore its territorial integrity and return to the internationally recognised borders of 1991.
All these measures have been undertaken as a response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Kyiv is acting in self-defence against the Russian invasion as enshrined in the UN Charter Article 51.
