The West uses the case of Navalny to stop the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and to hurt Putin. The assertions that the Russian state or even President Vladimir Putin himself was behind Navalny’s poisoning were rather shaky. Of course, the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is also political, just as it was in the days of Willy Brandt’s Eastern Policy. At that time, the gas projects with Moscow had given the Federal Republic the chance to come to an understanding with a very difficult opponent like the Soviet Union on this issue. Nord Stream 2 was “Putin’s favourite child. That is why so many now want to stop the pipeline in order to hurt Putin.”

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative on Alexei Navalny poisoning. There are no grounds for connecting the cause of Navalny's poisoning with the construction of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. A prominent Russian opposition figure, Alexei Navalny fell ill during a flight and the plane had to make an emergency landing in Omsk, where doctors said he was in a coma and they were trying to save his life. Since then, he has been transferred to Berlin and is receiving treatment at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin hospital in Berlin. The test results from the Charité indicate that the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned during his stay in Siberia (Russia). At the request of the Charité, a specialist Bundeswehr laboratory carried out toxicological tests on samples from Navalny. The results of these tests have revealed unequivocal proof of the presence of a chemical nerve agent from the Novichok group. Thus Alexei Navalny was the victim of an attack with a chemical nerve agent while inside Russia. The EU and the German government, plus leaders of EU member states - France, Italy, Estonia - strongly condemned what seems to have been an attempt on Navalny’s life.
