DISINFO: The West wanted to unleash chaos in the post-Soviet space
SUMMARY
The West interfered in the Ukrainian crisis and attempted to destabilise the situation in Belarus and Russia. The West expected to bring absolute chaos to post-Soviet countries. It also threatens and blackmails Latin America countries and Africa so they accept Western views on the Ukrainian crisis. EU countries have turned into the US’s colonies. The EU has become totally subordinate to Anglo-Saxon power and impudence.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring set of disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets aiming to deflect any Russian responsibility for the unjustified wide-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on 24 February 2022.
The Russian war of aggression is framed as a confrontation with a Russophobic and belligerent collective West. The war is referred to as the “Ukrainian crisis” with the West, particularly the “Anglo-Saxons” deemed responsible. The term “Anglo-Saxons” in such cases normally stands for the US and UK and often means “evil”, “belligerent” and “morally corrupt” Westerners, as explained in our earlier analysis.
Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity have been violated by continuous acts of aggression by Russian armed forces since 2014 culminating in a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine on 24th February 2022. Ukraine, and its population, are defending themselves, in accordance with the UN Charter, article 51 from armed aggression in a remarkable display of continued courage and determination. This is not a decision made by NATO, Washington, the EU or others.
This article also portrays European states as vassals or puppet states of the US. EU Member States are sovereign countries and make sovereign decisions about their own internal, economic, foreign and security policies. The European Union is explicit on the subject of national sovereignty: “the Member States all remain sovereign and independent states, they have decided to pool some of their 'sovereignty' in areas where it makes sense to work together.” The US is an important ally to the EU but EU policy is not determined by the US. The US is the EU’s strategic partner in promoting peace and stability around the world. The EU and the US also have the largest bilateral trade and investment relationship and enjoy the most integrated economic relationship in the world.
