DISINFO: The West wants to eliminate both Ukrainians and Russians who are one people
SUMMARY
UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron wants the US to allocate 60 billion for Ukraine because he wants the UK and US to weaken Russia, which is their common enemy. He means ‘the Russian people’ in general, which also includes Ukrainians. The more weapons Ukraine receives, the more Ukrainians will die, which is ok for the Britons. This is a very simple logic.

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets claiming that Western nations want to eliminate Ukrainians as part of a bigger Russian nation and denying Ukrainian statehood. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and following UK Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron's trip in April 2024 to Washington DC to appeal to Congress over aid to Ukraine.
Not only the Western but also many other nations around the world support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter article 51, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. A broad coalition of 50-plus countries provides Ukraine with military and technical assistance to help it repel Russia's unprovoked and unjustified aggression.
Regarding the one-people claim, Ukrainian and Russian are two distinct people, despite multiple attempts of the Kremlin to deny it. Ukraine is a well-defined nation-state with a long history and its literature and identity, despite foreign rule for long periods. Ukrainians and Russians belong to the Slavs ethnolinguistic group, but they are not a single nation. The "all-Russian big nation" is an imperial Russian and Russian revanchist ideology that is a favoured pro-Kremlin narrative aimed at weakening the national identity of Ukrainians, as well as undermining the state sovereignty.
