DISINFO: The West wants to push Russia towards a new round of disintegration
SUMMARY
The overseas analysts and Western politicians speak loudly about the imminent death of all empires. According to them, the Spanish, British and many other empires disappeared, but Russia continued to exist despite the USSR’s collapse. This situation is bad, so it is necessary to use all means to push Russia towards a new round of disintegration, taking advantage of the armed conflict in Ukraine. Thus, it is necessary for the West to do everything possible to undermine the functioning of the Russian state institutions and deprive this country of effective government, as it happened in 1991. In the end, Russia will be removed from the political scene.
RESPONSE
A recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative alleging the West is trying to destabilise and destroy Russia.
The West does not seek to eliminate Russia as a geopolitical actor. Neither NATO, the USA, nor the EU wishes to push Russia towards destabilisation and disintegration. The claim that the West tries to “return Russia to the year of 1991” is ungrounded.
All the fundamental domestic and international problems of Russia do not come from the alleged Western hostile activities and plots, but they are the results of aggressive and corrupt policies implemented by the Kremlin during recent decades. All existing destructive processes taking place within the Russian state have been significantly accelerated by Putin’s decision to annex Crimea in 2014 and to start a large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. In other words, it is Putin’s war against Ukraine which is destroying the perspectives of Russia, not alleged Western plots.
