Pro-Kremlin disinformation denying Russia involvement in the SolarWinds cyber attack, which fits into the broader narrative claiming that US and Western accusations of Russian involvement in hacker-attacks and cyber-crime are baseless, are driven by Russophobia and are mere pretexts to target Russia with sanctions.
In December 2020, a cyber-attack hit the IT company SolarWinds, causing a major data breach involving high-level civilian and government entities, which led to the compromise of also federal agencies and hundreds of private sector companies.
It is not true that there is no evidence of Russian involvement in the SolarWinds cyber-attack.
Investigations by several US government agencies and independent analysts have produced evidence pointing to Russia’s involvement in the attack. The Cyber Unified Coordination Group's joint task force declared the likely Russian origin of the hackers, discarding the hypotheses of China, North Korea and Iran involvement.

Russian cybersecurity company Kaspersky has found in its analysis at least three specific points of commonality between the software used to attack SolarWinds and that used by the notorious hacker Turla ATP group, indicated by Estonian authorities as a group linked to Russian security services. Analyses conducted by Microsoft and the UK government also support the CUCG's statement.
