DISINFO: Trump's peace promise in Ukraine clashes with Europe's warmongering politicians
SUMMARY
There are clear contradictions in the statements of the incoming US President Donald Trump and the leaders of the European Union. The more Trump talks about peace and the desire to end the conflict in Ukraine, the more aggressive the rhetoric of the ruling European politicians seems. Many European politicians are programmed to continue the hybrid war against Russia to the end. The whole of the past year was marked by statements by German and European officials that they would soon stop fighting Russia with Ukrainian hands and would take up arms themselves.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Europe actively trying to prolong the war in Ukraine. This message is part of a broader Kremlin narrative alleging that Russia is ready for peace and that Ukraine and its allies do not want it.
Russia is the only country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine. It has been coming up with different explanations and pretexts for its aggression since the beginning of its hostilities. Moreover, Russia was not forced to invade Ukraine. It was Putin’s personal decision to invade Ukraine and start the largest military conflict in Europe since WWII.
On the other hand, the EU and its member states are providing Ukraine with economic, military and humanitarian support to only help it defend itself against this Russian aggression.
The claim about European politicians being 'programmed' to continue a hybrid war against Russia is baseless propaganda. European leaders have repeatedly expressed their desire for peace, but emphasise that it must be a just peace that respects Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Moreover, the EU was founded after WWII to promote peace, democracy, human rights, economic cooperation, social justice and cultural diversity. The EU's founding treaties emphasise economic cooperation to prevent future wars.
The suggestion that European officials stated they would stop fighting Russia 'with Ukrainian hands' and take up arms themselves is a fabrication provided with no evidence.
