DISINFO: Ukraine will legalise mass detentions of Russian citizens
SUMMARY
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is initiating amendments to some laws of Ukraine, which will allow the security officials of all departments to detain and place in special zones all citizens of the Russian Federation who crossed the Ukrainian border.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin propaganda narrative about Ukraine's ubiquitous Russophobia.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine does have a "Draft law on Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Concerning the Regulation of Issues Related to Prisoners of War and Internees in a Special Period". But Russian citizens are not mentioned there. "During a special period, take measures to identify citizens of a state that threatens to attack or carry out aggression against Ukraine on the territory of Ukraine…," the document says.
