DISINFO: Ukrainian referenda on joining Russia were not falsified, unlike the 2020 US presidential election
SUMMARY
The results of the 2022 referenda in four Ukrainian regions, whose residents overwhelmingly voted to join Russia, were impossible to falsify. On the other hand, the results of the 2020 US presidential election were rigged through voting by mail.
RESPONSE
There is no evidence to support the claim that the US 2020 presidential elections were fraudulent. Allegations of electoral fraud have been dismissed more than 60 times by different US courts and judges, both Republican and Democrat, due to lack of any significant evidence, including the Supreme Court on two occasions.
In its interim assessment on the conduct of the election, the OSCE found that the elections were:
"competitive and well managed" (p. 1), noting that "evidence-deficient claims about election fraud" (ibid.) have been refuted by "election officials at all levels" (p. 3) and "national security agencies" (p. 11).
The conclusion from all these investigations is that the November 3rd elections were the most secure elections in the history of the United States.
On the other hand, the so-called referenda which Russian occupying forces conducted in four Ukrainian oblasts - namely Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson - were held illegally and marred by abundantly documented instances of coercion and ballot-rigging.
The results of these sham polls have been universally rejected by leading international and human rights organisations, including the United Nations, the OSCE, NATO, as well as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
On the EU's behalf, High Representative Josep Borrell said the following:
“The European Union strongly condemns these planned illegal “referenda” which go against the legal and democratically elected Ukrainian authorities, are in violation of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and in blatant breach of international law. The results of such actions will be null and void and would not be recognised by the EU and its Member States. [...]
Therefore, these illegal “votes” cannot be considered under any circumstance as the free expression of the will of the people living in these regions under constant Russian military threat and intimidation."
