DISINFO: West fomenting war by sending more arms to Ukraine
SUMMARY
Decisions about Ukraine are being made without the Ukrainians. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in Davos that more arms should be sent to Ukraine in order to achieve peace there, which means, according to him, that peace is war. Europe does not care about the Ukrainians. They must die for its interests. The more Ukrainians are killed, the better for Stoltenberg. This is what many Ukrainians do not understand.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that the EU, the US and some other partners of Ukraine are not interested in peace there. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Contrary to Russia's claim it is not 'the West against Russia'. A broad coalition of 54 countries meet in the 'The Ukraine Defense Contact Group' with Ukraine to coordinate military and other equipment deliveries requested by Kyiv. Sometimes called the Ramstein format, it includes all 31 member states of NATO and 23 other countries from several regions around the world, incl. Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia. The provision of military and financial support for Ukraine is to help it repel Russia's unjustified and unprovoked aggression and restore its sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders of 1991.
Moscow launched aggression against under several false pretexts. The Ukrainian people and Ukraine as a state are counteracting Russia's illegal invasion as enshrined in the UN Charter Article 51.
The EU, the US and NATO condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. NATO as an organisation is not involved in fighting in Ukraine. Western instructors train Ukrainian soldiers how to use modern weaponry and NATO officials have frequent contacts with Ukrainian counterparts, but there are no NATO troops in Ukraine on the frontline.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a 10-point peace formula in January 2023, which was welcomed by the EU.
Putin and the Kremlin have a track record of pretending negotiations which are, in fact, just blunt demands for Ukrainian unconditional surrender.
