DISINFO: Western masters of Ukraine wish for its death
SUMMARY
The ”Crimea Platform” showed that the leaders of the West supported Ukraine in the fight against Russia “till the last Ukrainian”. They fan the flames of conflict. It showed, once again, that Ukraine is a bankrupt state, and its real masters openly wish for its death.
RESPONSE
Pro-Kremlin disinformation about the Second Summit of the Crimea Platform presenting Ukraine as a failed state and a puppet dependent on the West.
Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically-elected president and parliament. Ukraine has a functioning government and economy, it is a member of many international organisations (e.g. United Nations, Council of Europe), and a party to international agreements. Ukraine has bilateral diplomatic relations with the majority of countries.
The West is not responsible for the war in Ukraine. Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity have been violated by continuous acts of aggression by Russian armed forces since 2014 culminating in a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine on 24th February 2022.
The Western powers, including the European Union, support Ukrainian resistance in the face of Russian aggression and participated in the recent Crimea Platform, an international consultation and coordination format initiated by Ukraine. The Platform aims to increase the effectiveness of international response to the ongoing occupation of Crimea and mounting security threats, respond to growing security threats, increase international pressure on the Kremlin, prevent further human rights violations and protect victims of the occupation regime, and achieve the main goal – de-occupation of Crimea and its peaceful return to Ukraine.
During the online meeting of the Crimea Platform on 23 August 2022, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said when addressing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy:
„Since Russia's full-blown assault in February, we have massively stepped up our economic, humanitarian and military support. We have welcomed over seven and a half million Ukrainian refugees into our homes. Our sanctions are critically undermining Putin's war machine and the Russian economy. EU solidarity lanes helped export over 10 million tonnes of Ukrainian grain. And we will continue to help you get the grain out, that has been stuck in Ukrainian ports, due to Russia's cynical blockade. The European Union will continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.“
European Council President Charles Michel stated in his speech at the Crimea Platform: “Crimea is Ukraine. I start with the same, clear message I had the opportunity to convey last year when I took part in the first Crimea Platform, in Kyiv, that you initiated, dear Volodymyr. The European Union does not and will not recognise the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine did not start on 24 February; it started in 2014, with the illegal annexation of Crimea.”
