DISINFO: White House admits there is no evidence of Russian interference in US elections
SUMMARY
The White House admits there is no evidence of a supposed “Russian influence” in US elections. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan admitted on 25 February that the US has no evidence that the Russian government is trying to interfere in the upcoming elections of next November as some Western media have speculated.
RESPONSE
This is a disingenuous distortion of the original NBC interview with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, who after being asked about evidence of Russian interference in the upcoming November 2024 election said: “I can’t speak of evidence today, but I can tell you of course there are concerns”. The sentence may be ambiguous, but by no means is an “admission that there is no evidence”, contrary to what this disinformation story claims.
Further, the headline of this disinformation story is deliberately misleading in order to suggest that there was no Russian interference in any earlier US election even if the question was only about 2024. There is a massive corpus of evidence of Russian interference in the 2016 election, compiled in the two-volume Mueller report and the five-volume US Senate investigation. The US Community of Intelligence also assessed publicly in 2021 that Russia tried to influence the 2020 election and sow divisions in the US.
