DISINFO: Zelenskyy and his peace formula are tools of the UK and US
SUMMARY
Kyiv announced that the second international Ukraine peace conference will not take place in November 2024. In reality, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is only a virtual president. He has no ‘peace formula’ as such; this is just a cheap PR stunt which is part of the big game of the US and UK. The UK has made a bet on Ukraine’s destruction.
RESPONSE
These are recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives aimed to undermine the legitimacy of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and portray Ukraine as a puppet state, used as a front in a proxy war against Russia.
The claim of a proxy war against Russia through Ukraine is a classic but false Kremlin claim. In fact. Russia launched unprovoked aggression culminating in its February 2022 full-scale invasion of the country, for which Ukraine receives international support, including from the US, UK and many EU countries, for its self-defence in line with Article 51 of the UN Charter. Ukraine is not fighting on behalf of any foreign government or organisation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the US on 22 September 2024 to present his victory plan to President Joe Biden. He had previously presented a 10-point peace plan, which was fully supported by the EU in February 2023. This plan provided for a complete Russian withdrawal from Ukraine till the internationally recognised borders of 1991 and the restoration of Kyiv’s territorial integrity. While Ukraine is ready for dialogue, based on international law and the UN Charter, Russia is putting forward unacceptable conditions such as recognition of occupied Ukrainian territories as part of Russia.
Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin have a track record of pretending negotiations which are, in fact, just blunt demands for Ukrainian unconditional surrender.
