Five years after the 2020 mass protests, Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s war on Belarusian society shows no sign of ending. Driven by fear of those who defied him, he has turned Belarus into a semi-totalitarian state marked by mass arrests, political prisoner trading, blacklists of “enemies of the state”, and total media control.
